Manus Cranny

Manus Cranny is the Geo-Economics Editor at The National, bringing over 30 years of experience in global markets, finance, and media. Prior to his current role, he was a seasoned international anchor with both Bloomberg and CNBC, delivering market insights from New York, London, and Dubai. He began his career as a commodity trader and later worked as an institutional broker at First Chicago Bank (now part of JP Morgan Chase), covering futures, options, bonds, and derivatives for regional institutional investors.

Manus is known for his incisive interviews with global leaders ranging from Bill Gates and Cyril Ramaphosa to CEOs of UBS, Total, Shell, and BP as well as regional powerhouses like Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Sultan Al Jabar, and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. As a moderator, he famously contributes to high-profile forums such as the Milken Institute, Bloomberg New Economy Forum, and the Qatar Economic Forum.

  • His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama

    Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications – UAE

    His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama was appointed as Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in October 2017, and then was appointed as Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications in July 2020.

    His responsibilities include enhancing the government performance levels by investing in the latest technologies and tools of artificial intelligence and applying them in various sectors.

    His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama is Spearheading UAE efforts to be positioned as a global leader in Digital economy, With the focus to enhance UAEs digital economy contribution to the GDP.

    His Excellency is also focused on strengthening the UAE’s position as a global reference in remote work applications.

    His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama is currently the Managing Director of the World Government Summit. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation and Deputy Managing Director of the Foundation. He is also Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy.

  • Dr. Jean Fares

    CEO of Investopia
    Senior Advisor to the Minister UAE Ministry of Economy

    Dr. Jean Fares is a seasoned economist and senior policy advisor with over 25 years of experience in multinational environments. He has held senior positions in Canada, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, building a reputation for innovative strategic thinking and deep knowledge of economic and government affairs. Dr. Fares is currently the Senior Advisor to the UAE Minister of Economy, providing policy advice and contributing to economic policy formulation. He is also the CEO of Investopia, a new investment platform launched by the UAE to support the flow of capital into the new economic sectors, to promote dialogue among global leaders, and to foster communities of investors, entrepreneurs and policy makers shaping the global investment ecosystem. Dr. Fares serves as independent director on multiple international boards and as an adjunct professor at Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy in Abu Dhabi.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the prestigious University College London (UCL), with a subspecialty in family medicine and a special interest in acute and emergency medicine. With over 15 years of experience across public and private sectors in the UK and UAE, Dr. Qureshi has extensive clinical expertise in family medicine, sports performance, medical education, and healthcare information technology. Dr. Qureshi has been with The Brain & Performance Centre since its inception and, over the past four years, has developed and refined his skills in hyperbaric and performance medicine.
